Laurencekirk Network Schools
Mearns Academy is situated in the town of Laurencekirk in the heart of the Howe o’ the Mearns in Kincardineshire. It serves the population of the town and the surrounding rural area. Apart from Laurencekirk Primary School we draw pupils from our other associated primary schools at Auchenblae, Fettercairn, Luthermuir, Marykirk, Redmyre (Fordoun) and St Cyrus.
In addition, we receive pupils who live outwith our delineated zone whose parents exercise their rights under the Education (Scotland) Act 1981 (Parents’ Charter) and choose to send their children to Mearns Academy providing a placing request is accepted.
Admissions Enquiries
If you are new to the area and your child stays within the Mearns Academy catchment area, please contact the school in the first instance and we will arrange for paperwork to be sent to you to apply for a place in school.

If you do not live within the Mearns Academy catchment area, you will be required to complete an Out of Zone placing request directly with Aberdeenshire Council.

Primary 7 Transition
If your child is in Primary 7 and attends one of the local primary school listed above and you stay within the Mearns Academy catchment you won't be required to complete any admissions paperwork and your child will automatically transfer to Mearns Academy in the summer.
If your child is in P7 and does not live locally then you will be required to complete a placing request application via the Aberdeenshire Council website.
